A bridal hair trial is the single most important step between booking your stylist and walking down the aisle. It’s where we turn your ideas into a finished look — tested, refined and agreed — so that on the morning of your wedding, there’s nothing left to chance.

Every bridal booking with I Do Hair includes a trial session. I don’t leave wedding hair to guesswork.

What Happens at the Trial

The trial takes place at your home or a location of your choice anywhere in Cheshire. I bring all my equipment and we spend around an hour together (sometimes a little longer for more complex styles) working through the following:

  • Discussing your vision — we’ll go through any photos, Pinterest boards or magazine cuttings you’ve collected and talk about what appeals to you
  • Assessing your hair — I’ll look at your hair type, texture, thickness and length to understand what styles will work best and hold longest
  • Creating the look — I’ll style your hair into the agreed design so you can see exactly how it looks and feels
  • Testing accessories — bring your veil, tiara, comb, clips or any other hair pieces so we can see how they sit within the style
  • Discussing your dress — your neckline, back detail and overall silhouette all influence which hairstyles work. Photos of the dress are really helpful
  • Timing the style — I note exactly how long your look takes to create, which feeds directly into planning the wedding morning schedule

By the end of the trial, you’ll know precisely what your hair will look like on the day. No surprises, no anxiety — just confidence.

When to Book Your Trial

I recommend scheduling your trial at least six weeks before the wedding. This gives us enough time to make any adjustments if needed — a second trial for something more complex, or time for you to grow your hair a little longer, adjust your colour, or source specific accessories.

If you’re planning any major hair changes — colour, extensions, a significant cut — I’d suggest booking the trial after those are done so we’re working with the hair you’ll actually have on the day.

What to Bring

The more information you bring, the better the trial will go:

  • Inspiration photos — screenshots from Instagram, Pinterest, magazines, or photos from weddings you’ve attended. Even styles you don’t want are useful, as they tell me what to avoid
  • Hair accessories — tiaras, combs, clips, fresh flower samples, hair vines, pins. I also carry a selection of bridal hair accessories you can try and purchase if you haven’t found the right piece yet
  • Veil — if you’re wearing one, bring it. How and where the veil attaches affects the hairstyle design
  • Dress photos — a picture of your dress (front and back) helps me understand the neckline and what hairstyles will complement it
  • Wear a white or light-coloured top — it gives a better impression of how the style will look against bridal tones

What If I Change My Mind After the Trial?

That’s completely fine. Some brides come in sure they want an updo and leave preferring loose waves, or vice versa. The trial exists for exactly this reason. If you want to try a second option, we can absolutely do that — either on the same day if time allows, or at a follow-up session.

I’d rather you change your mind at the trial than feel uncertain on the morning. Honest feedback during the trial means a perfect result on the day.

Bridesmaid and Bridal Party Trials

Trials for bridesmaids and mothers are optional but recommended for larger bridal parties or more detailed styles. They’re especially useful if a bridesmaid has a very different hair type to the others, or if you want to see how the group’s styles look together before the day.

Bridal party trials can be arranged alongside the bride’s trial or separately, depending on everyone’s availability.
